Release of Egestabase R5
In February 2024, we released Egestabase R5. This release encompasses a split of Egestabase into Egestabase Research and Egestabase Practice. For Egestabase Research, the release also comprised a swap of bibliographic data source from Elsevier Scopus to OpenAlex. Functionality and dataset are now in place, but our categorization of evidence is still subject to validation.

Focus Group with Junior Researchers at SLU
Together with junior researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), we carried out a focus group style activity to get input on the design and functionality of Egestabase. This input served both as the basis for designing acitivites for testing with more diverse user groups in 2022, and as direct input for the tool design given that researchers are a target group for the tool.

Survey #2: Help us Design Egestabase
To give future users an opportunity to influence the design and functionality of Egestabase, we designed a survey that solicited feedback on:
- the filtering functionality and logic, and
- different prototypes to visually represent data.

Survey #1: Help us Refine the Protocol
To give future users an opportunity to influence the scope and comprehensiveness of the evidence map and platform, we designed a survey that asked about:
- What types of scientific research to include?
- What search terms to use to find relevant research?
- How to sort and categorize relevant research?

Integrating Egestabase in MSc Education at LiU
As part of an MSc course (Sustainable Resource Management) in the Science for Sustainable Development program at Linköping University (LiU), we piloted the use of Egestabase in a classroom environment. The idea was to see if Egestabase can help students explore technologies to recover plant nutrients from human excreta and wastewater. At the same time, we gained valuable insights into the perspectives of students as potential future users of Egestabase.

SNP Thematic Workshop
On 5 November 2020, the Swedish Nutrient Platform convened a thematic workshop on the topic 'Recirculating nutrients between urban an rural areas - what are the needs of food producers?'. We made substantial contributions to planning, conducting, and evaluating this workshop.
At the workshop, various actors discussed desired characteristics of recycled fertilizer products derived from human excreta and wastewater, including how their uptake could be promoted. The workshop was guided by a literature review and a suite of interviews and surveys that were conducted prior to the workshop.
